A Letter from the Seidman Family

Friends:

The LoveScarf Project provides knit scarves (and caps and gloves) to cancer patients at New York Presbyterian Hospital.

The Project was started in California in 2003. My brother, Robbie Seidman, was a patient at City of Hope Hospital in Southern California. During his illness he was constantly surrounded by friends and family. One of his friends, Bridgett, noticed that this was not the case with many of the patients there. After Robbie died in November 2003 Bridgett decided to honor his memory by beginning the LoveScarf Project. The purpose was to provide comfort to the patients and to let them know that they were being thought of during the holidays. Many of her friends knit scarves and then delivered them to City of Hope during the holidays. This has been done at City of Hope every year since.

Last year, we started the LoveScarf Project in New York in association with New York Presbyterian Hospital. Thanks to the generosity of our friends we delivered more than 80 items to the patients at New York Presbyterian. The items were either knit or generously purchased and donated. Each item was personally delivered to the patients.

We will be delivering these items this year on December 17.

We are happy to say that the Temple Israel of New York Knitting Group (the Knitzvah Circle, a division of the Social Action Committee) has already knit 40 items which they are contributing to this effort. We thank them for this incredible effort.

If you are in a knitting group or know of one, please let us know.

We will be EMailing reminders and additional information throughout the fall. If you knit, this is a great way to put your talent to a great and much appreciated use. So, please, start your knitting. We will be collecting items through mid-December.

Thank you.

It's the kick-off to the NYC Love Scarf Project.

In 2007 the tally for hand-knit items collected by Team Glass Posse:

The final count:
Scarves: 25 (all hand knit but 1)
Hat: 1

So, I invite you to pull out that yarn that's been sitting for a while, and knit up a thing or two for a cancer patient this Christmas. For mailing address, please email me:
